CANTERA
“Cantera” comes from the Spanish word for “quarry,” so it’s no surprise that cantera stone is a volcanic rock produced exclusively in Mexico and Central America. Arte en Cantera even uses this material in our company name because of its especially amazing color and durability that is still surprisingly easy to carve and cut into even the most intricate of patterns. Because of this, along with the fact that it can be found in a range of colors depending on the region, it’s a favorite choice among many architects and builders using natural stone for tabletops, columns, statues and more.
LIMESTONE
Limestone is probably the most familiar stone building material to most of our customers, but just because it’s used for many applications (even in concrete) doesn’t mean it’s too ordinary to become a beautiful work of art in the right hands. This sedimentary stone is found all over the world, and has been used in architecture as early as the stone chosen for building the Great Pyramids of Giza. Some of the most impressive and beautiful architecture in the world is made from limestone, and we at Arte en Cantera would be pleased to bring this natural stone into your next building project.
TRAVERTINE
Although it has a different name, travertine is actually a form of limestone, with many of the same properties that make it excellent for cutting, carving and building architectural elements. It was favored by builders in Rome, Paris and the United States to create famous monuments throughout history. Today, travertine is a good choice for statutes, columns, fountains and more, thanks to the same durability that has preserved the Roman Coliseum for so many years.
