“Cantera” comes from the Spanish word for “quarry,” so it’s no surprise that cantera stone is a volcanic rock produced exclusively in Mexico and Central America.
Arte en Cantera even uses this material in our company name because of its especially amazing color and durability that is still surprisingly easy to carve and cut into even the most intricate of patterns. Because of this, along with the fact that it can be found in a range of colors depending on the region, it’s a favorite choice among many architects and builders using natural stone for tabletops, columns, statues and more.
